Day -82 WorldCup2018
More 1982 memories. Northern Ireland were probably the most unlucky
team to not not qualify for Russia this year, going out courtesy of an
nonexistent Switzerland penalty. On the other hand they would have been
one of the surprise packages of the tournament if they had made it,
their team made up predominantly of players who play in the lower
leagues in England.
In 1982 they pulled off one of the biggest upsets of that, and any World Cup, when they beat the hosts Spain. Watching it live, I remember the incredulity at Spain losing in front of their expectant home fans.
Gerry Armstrong, famous for this goal.
